Begin Your Scouting Journey!
Whether you’re new to the Scouting experience or brand new, we hope that you’ll join our Cub Scout Pack and join the fun!
Our Cub Scout Pack is made up of about 60 Scouts, organized in to multiple dens. Each den consists of Scouts of the same grade in school, as follows:
- Kindergarten: Lions
- First Grade: Tigers
- Second Grade: Wolves
- Third Grade: Bears
- Fourth Grade: Webelos
- Fifth Grade: Arrow of Light
Each den is led by one or more parent volunteers, who serve as Den Leader(s). Together that den will work together to earn various “adventures” which will go towards earning their next rank.
Our Pack meets every other Thursday evening at St. Josephs Church’s Social Hall. Meetings begin at 6:30 PM and usually last about an hour to an hour-and-a-half. The exact length of the meeting will vary depending on the activity planned for the evening, as well as the age of the Scouts.
In addition to work on rank advancement adventures, the Pack participates in a number of other activities throughout the year, including but not limited to:
- Camping four times a year
- Pinewood Derby
- Raingutter Regatta
- Blue & Gold Banquet
- Ice Fishing
- Base Camp Lock-In
- Attend Wild Game as a Pack
- Tours of Fire Department, Police Department, Delta Airlines Hanger, etc
- Various service projects
- Egg Drop competition
Most of these activities are provided free-of-charge to Scouts and their families. Yes, every Scout activity is a family activity and families are invited to join us!
The uniform for Cub Scouts can be acquired at the Scout Shop at Northern Star Base Camp (6202 Bloomington Rd, St. Paul, MN 55111). It’ll consist of a button up uniform shirt, a rank-based neckerchief, neckerchief slide, belt, and optionally a hat. In addition, most families choose to also purchase a “Class B” uniform, which is a Pack-themed t-shirt, which counts as a uniform but is less susceptible to getting damaged or soiled.
So what will this all cost you? Well, when compared to the cost of sports and many other activities, there is no doubt that Scouting delivers great value to its members! The membership fee to join Cub Scouts is $205 per year. However, the cost to participate should never be an obstacle to join, so scholarships are readily available and can be applied for during the registration process.
This cost only covers the registration fee, which does not cover the costs of running the Pack. We try to offset these costs by conducting several fundraisers over the course of the year. We ask each Scout to contribute $75 to the Pack through fundraising. Together this raises the funds necessary to put on all the activities our Pack does.
Hopefully this answers most of your questions and convinces you to join our Scouting family. If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact us!
